Liberty Lake

Liberty Lake incorporated in 2001 and most of its housing went up from the mid-nineties on. That means a lot of houses are now arriving at their first or second repaint at once — and a first repaint on factory-finished siding is a different job from any that follows it.

Most contractors quoting this town drive up from Spokane. We drive down from here. The practical difference shows up when something needs another look after the crew has packed up.

Elk

Out here the difference between a good contractor and a frustrating one is rarely skill. It is whether they turned up with everything, because the hardware store is a long way back.

Mead

We drive the Deer Park–Spokane corridor every working day, and Mead sits in the middle of it. That means no travel premium, no waiting a week for someone to come out from the valley, and a painter who already knows what Five Mile Prairie wind does to a south-facing wall.

Mica

The single most useful thing we tell homeowners on wooded lots out here costs nothing and involves no paint: get the greenery off the walls before it takes the coating with it.

Rockford

Most of what needs coating on a Rockford property is not wood. Metal follows completely different rules, and putting house paint on a steel building is the most expensive shortcut available out here.

Spangle

Spangle is small enough that the useful local knowledge is specific: the low ground near the creek runs several degrees colder overnight than the rise above town, and that moves when your house can be painted.
